Clinician Spotlight: Ashley Crover, LMHC

Another recent addition to the Nourish Your Mind team is Ashley Crover, LMHC! Before joining Nourish Your Mind, she spent several years working in a long-term outpatient care clinic specializing in children, adolescents and their families. Ashley has expertise in partnering with those suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, and personality disorders. Ashley believes that each client is their own expert. She provides an integrative approach that focuses on both the thoughts and behaviors her clients may be struggling with in order to help them find balance and build resiliency. She works with clients in a person-centered and skill building approach to help determine and reach their own individual goals. Following a Dialectical Behavioral and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach, she encourages and supports clients to reach their full potential.

Meet Ashley in her own words….

What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?

Boundaries!  Understanding that it’s okay to put yourself first sometimes, and that you can find so much happiness in making more time for the things that you love

What is your favorite part about working for Nourish Your Mind?

There is nothing better then connecting with the clients-especially providing that support in the community that also raised me.

Tell me how you first got involved in with Mental Health . . .

In High School, I took a psychology 101 course that changed my life for the better.  It made me so interested in understanding that way people felt and behaved.  Especially with friends and family going through mental health struggles of their own, it just drove my passion for this through the roof.

What are your hopes for the future of the Mental Health Industry?

My hope is that the stigma of going to therapy diminishes.  Therapy deserves to be a part of everyone’s life-it’s self care!  Who wouldn’t benefit from taking a few minutes every week thinking “what am I feeling right now?   Why am I feeling/acting the way I am?  How can I better myself?”

How would you describe your style as a Therapist?

Passionate.  I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am today-just to see my clients grow the way I know they can.  My greatest accomplishments come from watching people learn about themselves and become the best that they can be.

What do you feel makes you unique as a Mental Health Counselor?

I will never think that I know what is best for you.  I understand that you know yourself better than I ever will, and I am here to support the changes you feel can be best for yourself.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

I’m a very outgoing, try-new-things, and have fun type of person.  But a lot of people would be surprised to know how much anxiety I have had to work through to get to that point!  It’s not easy doing the work, but it’s definitely worth it.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about seeking counseling services for the first time?

Do it!  And also, understand that not all therapists are right for you.  It’s okay to not like a therapy style, or to struggle with building a relationship.  That doesn’t mean to give up on therapy, it means try someone new until you get someone you fit with and trust.

What do you do when you aren’t working?

I’m a big foodie.  I always love cooking new things, and if I don’t cook then you can probably find me at a locally owned restaurant trying to support small business owners and trying their food too 🙂 That and of course spending quality time with my dog!

What is an ability you wish you had?

Teleporting!  Being able to travel more is a goal of mind, how cool would it be just to transport anywhere?!

Favorite shows to watch?

Greys anatomy and Vampire Diaries!

Somewhere you want to travel?

Ireland!

Ashley works in our Warwick, Goshen, and Middletown locations.
