Melissa in her own words…
“Life is about balance, and it’s time to focus on your own well-being.”
What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
Change is the only constant and the importance of healthy risk! I, like many others, have spent a great deal of energy in my life avoiding change. Coming to the understanding that change is constantly happening and the relief in choosing to embrace it and seek opportunity has been really freeing! Also, measurements in baking aren’t suggestions.
What are your hopes for the future of the Mental Health Industry?
I hope that people continue to work on actively changing the stigma around mental health so that more individuals can receive support they are needing. whether professionally or personally.
How would you describe your style as a Therapist?
I am very empathetic and compassionate. I think it’s important to understand that everyone is the expert in their own lives and like to assist people with feeling empowered in creating a life that is fulfilling and satisfying on their own terms. I strive to assist clients with accepting painful emotions, increasing pleasant ones, and walking the middle path in life.
Motto or personal mantra?
“The best way to predict your future…is to create it”
What would you tell someone who is thinking about seeking counseling services for the first time?
There is growth where there is challenge. Beginning counseling can be very uncomfortable and i admire the courage in anyone deciding to expose themselves to this discomfort.
What do you do when you aren’t working?
I run a book blog! Also, I cook… a lot. I have been working on a project in which I focus on making dishes from a different country each week. Sometimes I even let my pup Tigger taste test.
If you were an animal what would you be? And why?
A dog! they’re so carefree and (almost) always bring a smile to people’s faces.
